Behind the Scenes: A Day at The Pettler Farm

People often ask us: what does a typical day on The Pettler Farm actually look like? The honest answer is that no two days are exactly alike — but they all share the same rhythm of early mornings, careful hands, and a deep love for what we do. Here's a peek behind the scenes.

Before the Sun Is Fully Up

The day starts early. Morning is the best time to harvest — the air is cool, the dew is still on the petals, and the flowers are at their freshest. We walk the garden rows with scissors and harvest baskets, selecting blooms that are just at their peak. It's quiet, unhurried work, and honestly one of our favorite parts of the day.

Sorting and Pressing

Back in the studio, the morning's harvest gets sorted by variety, color, and size. Flowers destined for pressing are carefully laid between sheets of botanical paper and placed in our flower presses. We rotate and check existing presses too — some flowers have been drying for weeks and are nearly ready to work with.

The pressing room has a particular smell: dry paper, faint florals, and something earthy underneath. It's become the smell of home to us.

The Studio: Where Art Happens

Midday is usually when we move into composition work — arranging dried botanicals into new pieces. This is the most meditative part of the process. We lay out flowers on the backing board, step back, rearrange, step back again. There's no formula. Each piece finds its own shape.

When an arrangement feels right — balanced, alive, complete — we secure the botanicals and move to framing. Every frame is assembled by hand, sealed to protect against humidity, and inspected before it's ready to ship.

Packing and Shipping

Afternoons often mean packing orders. Each piece is wrapped carefully in tissue, cushioned, and boxed so it arrives exactly as it left us. We take this part seriously — your order has traveled from our garden to our studio to your door, and we want it to arrive beautifully.

End of Day

By evening, the studio is quiet again. There's usually a new batch of flowers in the press, a few finished pieces waiting to be photographed, and a running list of ideas for tomorrow. It's a full day — but it's ours, and we wouldn't trade it.

Thank you for being part of The Pettler Farm community. Every piece we make is made with this kind of care — and knowing it goes to a home that appreciates it makes every early morning worth it.
